UMRI FIRE Breakfast Seminar: Exploring the Water-Food-Energy Nexus.


On Monday the 9th of September 2013, the UMRI FIRE project held a breakfast seminar (8-9:30am) which took place in the Discovery Centre at the Manchester Museum. The aim of the breakfast seminar was to develop an active dialogue between The University of Manchester’s research community and external organisations and universities. This breakfast seminar focused on the challenges facing future land use and included presentations from three speakers:

Mr Gutiérrez-Cánova from Murcia University, Spain started off the seminar with a presentation on "Ecosystem structural and funcional responses to land-use instensification".

Professor Wossink from the University of Manchester followed, presenting her work on "Assessing trade-offs between biodiversity, food production and carbon sequestration".

Professor Swaffield from the University of Lincoln, New Zealand rounded off the breakfast seminar, presenting his work on "Integrated landscape management in a globalised world: practices and pathways".

These three 10 minute presentations were follwed by questions from the audience and discussion amoung the group. The event was free with over 40 people attending. Attendees include local businesses, members of the public and university staff/students with an interest in the water-food-energy nexus.
